Maschinenfabrik KRONE and the active noise cancelling (ANC) specialist recalm are joining forces to improve comfort and health in the driver's cab. The founding team of recalm is supported by Startup Port and Startup Port @TUHH and comes from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.
recalm GmbH was founded in 2017 by Marc von Elling, Martin Günther, Lukas Henkel and Ralf Ressel. Marc came up with the idea of active noise reduction in his flat in Hamburg-Altona at the beginning of 2016. Regularly exposed to the noise of the fish market and the Reeperbahn, he had the vision of cancelling out noise at the touch of a button and without headphones in order to reduce stress and noticeably improve quality of life. Together, they developed an initial prototype and, with the support of the Startup Port @TUHH (then known as the ‘Startup Dock’), successfully went through a series of private and public funding programmes (including EXIST from August 2017). The company is based in the Startup Port in Harburger Schloßstraße.
Recalm recently announced a strategic partnership with Maschinenfabrik KRONE. Together they want to ensure more comfort, health and less noise in the driver's cab. KRONE has also invested in recalm via Silver Crown Capital.
‘Together with recalm, we want to revolutionise comfort and communication in the cab in addition to the health aspects and thus significantly reduce the strain on the driver,’ says Guido Ringling, Managing Director of Silver Crown Capital.
The retrofittable ANCOR infotainment system for driver workstations in construction, agricultural and forestry machinery
With the unique Active Noise Cancelling technology ANCOR from recalm, it will be possible in future to significantly reduce the noise level and achieve a completely new dimension of entertainment, communication and comfort in the driver's cab. The retrofittable ANCOR system is integrated into the headrest and works with several microphones and loudspeakers. The microphones pick up the existing ambient noise, while the loudspeakers emit sound signals in antiphase. As a result, the sound waves cancel each other out and low-frequency background noise is suppressed.
The special feature: ANCOR works in free field, i.e. without headphones, and thus creates a ‘quiet zone’ of 20 to 30 centimetres in diameter around the driver's head, in which machine noise is significantly reduced.
About recalm
The mission of recalm is to transform noise into sound and thus improve the quality of life. The company produces communication systems with the ground-breaking ANCOR (Active Noise Cancelling) technology, which reduces harmful noise by more than 50 %. The ANCOR system is used in agricultural, construction and forestry machinery, automobiles and aeroplanes.
