Before your arrival

If you are coming to Hamburg to study from abroad, there are things you must consider and deal with before entering the country. 

  • If you have been awarded a university place at the TUHH you must accept it before the deadline expires as it will otherwise be reallocated. 
  • Do you need assistance with finding a room in a dormitory or do you have questions about preparatory German language courses? 
  • Maybe you need to apply for a student visa.

After your arrival

Once you arrived in Hamburg, the following steps are important:

  • As soon as you have found a room or an apartment you must register with the local authority. Click here to find out where to register.
  • They will issue you with a registration confirmation in writing for you to apply to the appropriate Foreign Residents’ Department for a residence permit.
  • For essential payments you will need a bank account that you can set up at a bank of your choice.
  • All students must prove they have valid comprehensive health insurance cover when registering. To find out more, click here.
