Description of the company
Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. It offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as Europe’s number one space enterprise and the world’s second largest space business. In helicopters, Airbus provides the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.
Situation
Airbus Operations GmbH in its Hamburg facilities is using intensively 3D and Virtual Reality technologies to support digitally all Design and Development work needed, including Customer Definition and Marketing. Today, it is still some effort needed to derive from the Digital Mockup (DMU) a reduced and photo-realistic 3D model with real-time capabilities. With respect to the topic “new products and services” the aim of this study is to identify new services approaches based on already prepared 3D data (data as an asset), like Cabin Crew Training.
Problem
The problem today is that most people are not yet aware about the potentials of up-to-date Virtual- and Augmented Reality technologies, so it is needed to demonstrate those capabilities for a specific use case.
Aims of the project
Investigation of the Cabin Crew Training business and available VR data and technologies at Airbus Hamburg, to create a demonstrator application which shows the potential for future ways of working and digital services business.
Scopes
