The basis of writing consultation is usually formed by exemplary work on a specific writing project or text. The aim of the sessions is not to finish writing or improving the complete text. Instead they focus on strengthening the writers’ personal skills, enabling them to continue in an independent and self-motivated way and to manage new writing projects on their own. The main idea of writing consultation is to help writers help themselves. Writing consultation aims at helping students to become aware of the typical stages and determinants of the writing process and to reflect their own writing practice with regard to this. This approach allows students to identify the tools that can be used to engineer the writing process systematically and successfully.
Your first step towards a writing consultation in the Student Counseling Center would be to arrange an appointment through the “Infothek” office. If you already have an outline, a draft or other text elements, please bring them along to the session. Of course you can also make use of the writing consultation if you have not produced any text so far. In the counseling session the underlying conditions will be analyzed and individual approaches to the problem or enhancement strategies will be developed. If your concern cannot be fully dealt with in the course of the initial session, follow-up sessions can be arranged.
