Our Approach to Counseling

The Student Counseling Center offers prospective students and students general orientation on their studies as well as psychological and pedagogical counseling (also in English language). Students may refer to the Student Counseling Center in case of personal matters or problems as well as with study-related questions.

The consultation is conducted by choice of the student. It is neutral, open-ended as to the results and confidential. Our counseling follows your individual concerns and topics, which may be related to your studies as well as to personal areas of your life.

Together with you, we develop solutions and strategies for the respective problems and challenges. The counseling is intended to mobilize your resources and to strengthen your own problem-solving skills.

We offer you various settings of consultation, including information events, workshops and one-to-one sessions. You can make an appointment for an initial counseling session in an uncomplicated way and usually without much waiting time through our consultation hours. As necessary, appointments for follow-up sessions can be arranged for.

The Student Counseling Center at TUHH considers itself part of an open-minded and sustainably acting university in an enlightened and diverse society, enabling all students to participate in studies and in student life as independently as possible and with equal opportunities.

We are referring to i.a. the
Counseling principles of the Gesellschaft für Information, Beratung und Therapie an Hochschulen e.V. (GIBeT)
and the
Counseling principles of the Nationales Forum Beratung in Bildung, Beruf und Beschäftigung (NfB)

We are there for you and take the time to listen to your concerns.
