200 alumni celebrate at the TU Hamburg

In September, the Hamburg University of Technology invited its alumni to the 5th “Homecoming” – with a barbecue on the Schwarzenberg campus and a festive champagne reception at the Empire Riverside Hotel. Around 200 alumni, including guests from Singapore, Mexico, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden and Spain, made their way to Hamburg to take part in this special event.

Since its founding in 1978, around 25,000 graduates have graduated from the TU Hamburg, with over 6,000 in the last five years alone. “It's great to see our alumni return to their alma mater,” says Vera Lindenlaub, Head of Alumni & Foundation at the TU Hamburg.

“Homecoming offers us a wonderful opportunity to recognize the achievements of our alumni and to revive the valuable connections that were formed during their studies. It fills me with pride to see how our former students have grown in their respective fields and are positively influencing society. At the same time, we want to show them how impressively our university has developed in recent years.”

Among other things, the alumni were given a campus tour to show them how their university has changed. The silver anniversary of the 1999 class was celebrated alongside the general homecoming, and the graduates were honored with certificates.

TU President Andreas Timm-Giel was pleased with the active alumni community: “For many years, we have been thrilled to see the deep connection our students have with the TU Hamburg. Their time with us is sometimes challenging, but at the same time full of wonderful memories and solidarity – and this continues long after graduation. We are very pleased that even long-standing graduates are returning to the TU Hamburg for the silver anniversary to look back with us on a formative period of their lives and celebrate together. All of this represents the spirit of the TU Hamburg.”

This spirit was particularly evident again this year: for example, one guest at the celebration decided at short notice to support the work of the TU Hamburg in the future, even as a new benefactor. The university expresses its heartfelt thanks and looks forward to welcoming its alumni at the next homecoming in 2026!
