Yachtclub Meridian e.V.

Start of electric mobility at Alster

Description of the companies:
Mörer Schiffselektronik: company for electrical yacht equipment
My Electroboat: Shipyard for electric driven boats
hySOLUTIONS GmbH
(project lead by Yachtclub Meridian)

Initial Situation
By resolution of the Government of Hamburg, the Alster will be free of internal-combustion engines from 2025. In addition to “Alstertouristik”, “DLRG” and police, the coaching boats of the sailing and rowing clubs are also affected, to which this project is related.

Problem
There are currently:

  • Boat hulls from various manufacturers, regardless of the engine
  • Electric outboard engines with system-related performance limits
  • Batteries as modular systems

as well as the first pre-series models of electric trainer boats from different manufacturers, but there is no serial solution that meets the current expectations of the clubs. (too les payload/ speed/ low performance,
optimization of electric management)

Aims of the project
Create an electric trainer motorboat for the Alster, suitable for everyday use. (3 subtasks)

a) Conversion of an existing boat (assembly of electric components, weight balancing, dimensioning of propulsion, drag reduction) … but usually boat will be too heavy and performance too low

b) Optimization of an existing E-boat (geometry of propeller, thrust jet, drag reduction, battery, test
and optimization of components) … to convert drivetrain from “Zoe” into “Tesla”

c) New design for the Alster, specification based… less drag and enough space and payload and a top
speed of 30 km/h

Scopes
1. Determination of needs: Create requirement specifications from club-specific application profiles (speeds and range; towing power; boat size; loading capacity; charging time –in german language)

2.1 Validation of calculation methods: Recalculation of an already built pre-series boat (to validate used methods of calculation for monohull/ RIB/ catamaran)

2.2 Real performance measurement (i.e. drag; speeds; pile tension force; influence of payload)

3. Design (optimization of tested boats and propulsions / new design incl. benchmark)
