7th International Aerogel Conference at the TU Hamburg

In September 2024, the “7th International Seminar on Aerogels” offered researchers, students and industry representatives from around the world a platform to exchange ideas on the latest developments in aerogel research. Aerogels, known for their unique properties such as extreme lightness and excellent insulation, are becoming increasingly important in industry and research.

Therefore, an interdisciplinary approach was at the forefront of the conference at the Hamburg University of Technology: under the direction of Prof. Irina Smirnova, Vice President of Research at the TU, practical applications were presented alongside over 50 lectures and poster presentations. “We are very pleased that the industrial production of aerogels - inspired by their use in e-mobility - is progressing There has also been significant progress in the area of aerogels from sustainable resources: in science as well as in the implementation by new creative start-ups. We are happy to network industry and research at our TU to further pave the way for the energy transition”.

This year, more than 150 people from 21 countries came together for the conference. In ten sessions, they discussed topics such as “Recycling & Sustainability”, “Environmental Application”, “Batteries & Energy Storage” and “Emerging Trends”. The event was organized in collaboration with the COST Action “AeroGels” and “EcoAerogels”, where new business ideas for Start-ups were presented in a separate session.
