The Housing Advice Service of the Department International Affairs helps international students and international guest researcher in finding accommodation on the private housing market.

International students

We offer a limited number of rooms in the student halls of our partner Studierendenwerk Hamburg especially for international exchange students from our partner universities and prospective international students.

We provide you information and tips on how to find accommodation in our video and in our brochure.

Every semester, we organize Information Sessions on how to find accommodation for international students at TUHH. Please check our webpage of our Welcome Weeks and our Ongoing Semester Programm for further details.

The application period for rooms for prospective international students and exchange students for Winter Semester 2025/2026 will run probably from 15 May until 15 June 2025.

Selected rooms in the student halls

How to apply

  • We offer, in cooperation with our partner Studierendenwerk Hamburg, a limited number of rooms in selected student halls in Hamburg.
  • International prospective students and exchange students from partner universities who have been newly admitted for studies at TUHH can apply for a room via our portal Mobility Online.
  • The rooms are fully furnished single rooms in apartment units of 2-6 students, with a shared kitchen and bathroom.
  • The monthly rent of a room is €390. Exceptions are possible. 
  • The rental period is limited to a maximum of 12 months. (i.e. 2 semesters, always starting in September).
  • If you would like to rent your room from the summer semester onwards, you can only rent the room from April until the end of August.

Rooms in Private Housing

  • We also facilitate, according to availability, rooms in private housing offered by locals.
  • Rooms in private housing are offered by locals directly to us.
  • The rooms are located in Hamburg and the surrounding area.
  • The rent per month depends on the district, furnished or not, shared kitchen and bathroom. The rent per month is between €400 and €550.
  • The rental period for private housing is usually flexible.
  • Please note that the rental agreement is between you and the landlord/landlady and the university is not responsible for the rental agreement and conditions.

Please note that we can not give you any guarantee that you will receive an offer for a room because of the high number of applications every year.

Erasmus and overseas exchange students from partner universities for the upcoming semester

  1. First, please complete your application for your exchange studies at TUHH in the portal Mobility Online.
  2. Please follow this link to fill out and send the Online-form for the rooms application. Please use the same email address and your first name and your last name as you have used for the application for your exchange studies at TUHH in Mobility-Online!
  3. You will receive an email with information where you have to re-login to Mobility-Online. Do not register again. Use the link provided in the email and use the same username and password for login which you have used to access your exchange studies application.
  4. In Mobility-Online on the left side menu, under "My Application Data", click "Selection of the used application". You'll see your exchange student application and your rooms application.
  5. Put a check mark behind the rooms application and click the button "select application".
  6. Please complete all required steps to complete your application for rooms.

Prospective international degree students

  1. Please follow this link to fill out and send the Online-form for the rooms application.
  2. You will receive an email asking you to register as a user in Mobility-Online.
  3. Follow the link provided in the email, choose a user name and password to register as a user.
  4. You will receive a registration confirmation with a different link to access your rooms application in Mobility-Online. Follow the new link to re-login to Mobility Online.
  5. On the left side menu, under "My Application Data", click "Selection of the used application". You'll see your rooms application in the centre field.
  6. Please complete all required steps to complete your application for rooms.
