Application of Multiphysics Numerical Simulations to assess the effects of aircraft systems intrinsic hazards to its physical system installation

Description of the company
Airbus is a leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to customers on a worldwide scale.
With around 130,000 employees and as the largest aeronautics and space company in Europe and a worldwide leader, Airbus is at the forefront of the aviation industry.

Situation
The effect of Tyre burst on A/C safety is part of the safety analysis. Simplified analytical evaluations of a given problem containing a high level of conservatism such as quasi static mechanical load introduction for a transient load case due to shock wave propagation following a pressure vessel burst event.

Problem
One of the most important tasks related to the safety demonstration of system installation during new aircraft developments and incremental developments is the assessment of the aircraft system behavior following defined external or intrinsic threat events - also commonly known as particular risks.

In this context, very often vulnerability assessments need to be strengthened for the installations of hydraulic rigid pipes and electrical harnesses following its exposure to intrinsic hazards - such as main landing gear tire burst events.

These assessments are normally based on simplified approaches (quasi static load introduction, simple supported beam approach for rigid pipes,…) due to time constraints and therefore are deemed to possess a high level of conservatism.

Aims of the project
To assess and quantify the level of conservatism due to the quasi static consideration of a highly transient mechanical load case.

Scopes
Multi Physics Numerical simulations; Physical System Installation commercial aircrafts; Particular Risk Analysis;
Stress simulations of a representative system installation use case in 3D based on quasi static and transient analysis followed by a quantitative comparison of both approaches.

Target group (students)
