TUHH Guest Network
The internet access at an event of the TUHH -- what you have to consider
The guest network is specially designed for guests who are only at the TUHH during a congress or trade fair and do not have a TUHH account.
Information for guests
The network traffic is partly restricted:
- Plain SMTP over TCP Port 25 for sending emails is not allowed. Sending emails is only possible over an encrypted authenticated connection: either SMTP over SSL (TCP port 465) or submission (TCP port 587)
- TCP Ports for Microsoft file services (TCP ports 135, 139, 445 and UDP ports 137, 138, 445) are not accessible. To circumvent these restriction you can use a VPN conenction to your home organisation.
- Bandwidth is limited per user (currently 20Mbit/s up/down) to minimize the risk of abuse.
To protect confidential information use software that is encrypting your network traffic and protect your computer, you are not alone in this network. We do not take responsibility for your computer!
A correct IP address is obtained from the DHCP server. Static IP addresses will lead to errors.
Wi-Fi
- The SSID for the event network will be communicated to you by the organizer.
- Encryption: WPA2 (AES) PSK
- You get the Pre-Shared-Key (PSK) from the organizer, not the computer center.
LAN
- The guest network is only accessible on network sockets specified by the organizer.
Data Protection
- Access to the Internet is provided by the Rechenzentrum (i.e. computer center) of Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).
- Eduroam guests authenticate to their home organization and are visible to the Rechenzentrum only as anonymous(@homeorganization.country). Information about the authentification will be kept for 7 days for troubleshooting reasons.
- The MAC address of the eduroam device and the dynamic IP address are technically required for the connection and are hence stored for the duration of the connection.
- When accessing the Internet, destination IP addresses and ports / services are briefly checked against the permitted firewall rules and written to a log for technical debugging.
- The processing of this data is done exclusively by the Rechenzentrum. The log buffer is overwritten by newer requests, usually within an hour. The data will not be passed on to third parties.
- The legal basis of the processing is Article 6 (1) (f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The purpose of which is the provision and rectification of the service as well as the reduction of cases of abuse.
- Responsible for processing is the President of the TUHH, Prof. Dr. Timm-Giel, Hamburg University of Technology, Am Schwarzenberg-Campus 1, 21073 Hamburg.
- External data protection officer of the TUHH is datenschutz nord GmbH, Konsul-Smidt-Straße 88, 28217 Bremen, email: datenschutz(at)tuhh.de
- According to the GDPR you have the right to information, rectification, restriction of processing, erasure, to object to the processing of your data and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
