With the start of the new winter semester, the Hamburg University of Technology welcomes many new faces to the Schwarzenberg Campus. The orientation weeks began with a festive welcome event in the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Harburg. Almost 1000 first-year bachelor students gathered there. The new students were able to make initial contacts and find out about campus life at various information stands in the foyer. The choir “SingING” then opened the official welcome in the hall. A special highlight was the traditional appearance of the student councils, who took to the stage with flags, mascots and in their typical outfits. Afterwards, they loudly took the new students outside to get to know each other better in front of the hall. The sword and martial arts club caused a surprise, earning great applause with real swords on stage.
“StudiStart” bags for new students – a popular tradition
This year, the new students at the TU Hamburg were once again delighted to receive the traditional bags. As part of the “StudiStart” campaign, organized by Harburg Marketing e.V., around 1,000 welcome backpacks were distributed at the Harburg weekly market on Sand during the second orientation week. The bags were packed with useful information and small gifts from partners in the district, such as Handball Sport Management and Marketing GmbH, the Malteser Hilfsdienst, the Junge bakery, IN VIA Hamburg e.V., the Kiekeberg Open-Air Museum Foundation and the Weber Pharmacy. The campaign was supported by the Tempowerk technology center, the TU & YOU Alumni and Foundation, and the Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude. In bright autumn weather, TU President Andreas Timm-Giel, Mark Behr from Tempowerk, and the head of Harburg's social department, Anke Jobmann, helped hand over the bags to the new students and welcome them to Harburg.
DAAD Prize awarded at the Master's welcome
The new Master's students were also welcomed in a ceremony - in the Audimax I, directly on the Schwarzenberg campus. Around 400 mainly international Master's students came together to celebrate the start of their studies at the TU Hamburg. A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) prize to Geerish Sahye. He has distinguished himself through his commitment to the integration of international students and his support in overcoming bureaucratic hurdles on campus. After the award ceremony, there was a cozy get-together with catering. Information booths, a photo booth from TK Techniker Krankenkasse and a raffle from Haspa rounded off the start of the new semester for the master's students.
