Specializations

In the first three semesters of the ES course, students learn the technical, mathematical, and scientific foundations of all engineering courses. After that, the students decide on one of the following specializations

  • Electrical Engineering,

which are briefly described below.

There is at least one consecutive Master's degree program at the TUHH for each specialization. Consecutive means that the Master's degree program builds on the content of the Bachelor's degree program. In this case, you do not have to apply for the Master's degree program, but can submit an application for transfer to STUDIS. Advanced Materials

Course language: English

Description: Both classic and new materials are the basis for products and drive product innovations. On the one hand, materials scientists develop completely new material concepts such as, for example, in the field of energy storage or structural lightweight construction. On the other hand, they improve existing materials and adapt them to the constantly changing requirements of global competition.

Biomedical Engineering

Description: The demands placed on healthcare systems are increasing continuously due to aging and increasing life expectancy in the population. Technization is of great importance here. This relates to both individual implants and aids as well as large devices for diagnostics and therapy. Medical and engineering specialists will have to work more closely together in the future to meet the new requirements. However, this also means that these fundamentally different disciplines must be able to understand the basic problems of the “other” discipline. Basic knowledge is necessary for this.

This means that, in addition to the engineering-specific basics, engineers must also be able to understand and influence medical and business aspects of patient care, project management, and development and research. To achieve the objectives of the degree program, the content in the three areas takes up approximately 1/3 of the specialization.

Electrical Engineering

Description: Electrical engineering makes the entire range of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena and laws usable for technical applications. An interest in mathematics, physics, and applied computer science is a prerequisite for successfully studying electrical engineering. Electrical engineering is one of the classic engineering sciences, which – expanded to include information technology – has become one of the main drivers of worldwide technological progress in recent decades. Simultaneously with the successful move into almost all technical products and services, the professional environment of the electrical engineer has increased in complexity.

Electrical engineers work in industry, medium-sized businesses, public institutions, universities, and engineering offices. Your activities can include diverse areas such as research, development, production, project management, sales, consulting, and teaching. Due to the wide-ranging fields of application, a high degree of specialization is required in the profession. Consequently, the study of electrical engineering is more than ever in the area of ​​tension between breadth (for the most diverse possible future uses) and depth (for current, subject-specific skills).

As part of the consecutive Bachelor-Master study structure at the TUHH, the specialization in electrical engineering is used to convey the breadth of the subject area.

Information and Communication Systems

Mechanical Engineering

Description: Today, mechanical engineering is involved in practically all industrially manufactured goods of everyday life, such as automobiles, airplanes, wind turbines, electronic devices, or tools. In a broader sense, mechanical engineering also includes plant engineering, vehicle and engine technology, aerospace technology, energy technology, and mechatronics. Mechanical engineering has a very broad field of activity and is one of the key sectors of the German industry.

In the specialization of Mechanical Engineering, knowledge and skills are acquired for the responsible processing of engineering tasks in the fields of research, development, production, and organization. The specialization is geared towards the needs of professional practice, whose requirements result from technical, economic, ecological, and social development.

Mechanical Engineering and Management

Mechatronics

Course language: English (from winter term 2024/25)

Description: Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary interface between the four technical areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, and control technology and thus enables the more efficient and sustainable development of intelligent production processes and smart products, such as autonomous vehicles or mobile robots, which can combine this multitude of disciplines.
