Tecnai 10 (100kV) from Philips (now Thermo Fisher)

Available from January 2025

Technical Details

The Tecnai 10 from Philips (now Thermo Fisher) is a versatile and user-friendly transmission electron microscope (TEM). The Tecnai was acquired as a used device by BEEM in 2024. With an acceleration voltage range from 20 to 100 kV, the Tecnai 10 offers a relatively high image resolution, making it suitable for the study of novel nanoscale materials. It is particularly well-suited for examining sensitive materials, such as biological samples or polymers, which cannot withstand high acceleration voltages.

Although the Tecnai 10 was introduced as far back as the 1990s, it is equipped with a powerful digital and high-resolution imaging system, the "Mega View II." The Mega View II imaging system was specifically designed for use in transmission electron microscopes and allows for extremely fast image capture.

Known for its high reliability and robustness (a "workhorse"), the Tecnai is intended to be used at BEEM, among other purposes, for the training of "TEM newcomers".
