Determining the water content according to DIN EN ISO 17892-1
Determination of the water content by oven drying. The water content is determined by weighing the sample before and after drying at 105 °C. Drying is continued until the mass of the sample no longer changes. The dried sample is placed in a desiccator and weighed after cooling to room temperature. The water content w is the ratio of the mass of water to the mass of dry soil. It serves as an auxiliary value in the evaluation of other soil mechanics tests, such as:
- Determination of consistency
- Proctor test - compactibility
- Compaction control
