Determining emin and emax according to DIN 18126

The densest and loosest stage of non-cohesive soils is determined in two tests. The density D and the relative density ID are determined from the porosities or void ratios determined from this and the corresponding natural values.
To determine the loosest state, the dried soil is poured into a container using a funnel. To determine the densest state, the soil is compacted in a cylindrical container underwater using a fork or dry using a vibrating table.
