Purpose

This module will focus on linking technology and Future Internet prospects to commercial business models for ambitious corporate and start-up Entrepreneurs.

Prerequisites

This module does not require a background in business or any specific area; a business-oriented mind-set or a desire to build your own company is the only requirement for entry.

Learning objectives

Students who complete the module at the introductory level will have an overview of what it takes to be an entrepreneur, how to brainstorm for ideas and the importance of risk taking.
Students who complete the module at the basic level will additionally learn the path from the idea to the opportunity, acquiring:

• Knowledge of how to create value through technology and to identify opportunities or exploit research results
• Knowledge of how to model an innovative idea and develop it into a successful enterprise through Business Model Canvas and through concrete examples of ‘Future Internet’-related business models
• Knowledge of how to set up your team, how to identify and how to approach your customers
• Knowledge of how to apply the taught concepts for solving real life problems.

Students who complete the module at the advanced level will additionally obtain insights into the path from the opportunity to the market, acquiring:

• Knowledge of how to develop a business plan for the right audience and skills on how to pitch your venture in front of investors
• Knowledge about the basic financial figures that are included in a business plan
• Knowledge about the EU funding landscape for supporting and promoting entrepreneurship
