Research project
My research is focused on particle formulation in gas-solid processes with liquid injection. This includes fluidized bed spray granulation and coating as well as spray drying processes. The aim of the experimental investigations and the corresponding particle analysis methods is the production of tailor-made particles with optimized properties (e.g. regarding flowability or dissolution behavior) for certain applications. Experiments are performed on lab-scale as well as on pilot-plant scale but also the miniaturized plants at the institute are utilized in case of very fine powders or small sample sizes.
Besides the experimental investigations, CFD-DEM simulations of especially spouted bed processes are performed in order to investigate the mixing behavior and the interaction with injected liquid droplets as well as to model continuously operated processes with respect to the residence time distibution of particles.
