DAAD-MOST Summer Institute Program Exchange
With financial support of the DAAD-MOST Summer Institute Program between Germany and Taiwan, Mr. Yu-Chen Lee, Master student of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), visited the Institute of River and Coastal Engineering from 07th July to 31st August 2016.
During his stay, Mr. Lee presented the research topic of his master thesis: “Methods for wind sea and swell separation” at the institute’s seminar on 11th August. He also applied his methods to available wave spectra measurements taken during the winter storm Xaver (in December 2013) at the German North Sea coast. The Chair of Environmental Geotechnics and Coastal Engineering of the University of Rostock provided measured data. The results of his analysis show significant swell energy during the storm that accounts for half of the total wave energy.
The coastal and flood protection system at the Baltic Sea near Warnemünde (Rostock) was introduced on a technical excursion on the 23rd August by colleagues from TUHH (Mrs. Dörte Salecker, Mr. Norman Dreier) and the University of Rostock (Mr. Jörg Radomski).
On 24th August Mr. Lee visited the Franzius-Institute for Hydraulic, Estuarine and Coastal Engineering at the Leibnitz University of Hannover. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Daemrich introduced the institute’s experimental facilities.
Finally yet important, the personal and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Germany was enhanced as joint activities beside the work enriched the stay.
