SUMMARY
Stud arc welding has successfully been applied to various cases. In shipbuilding, particularly the fastening of outfitting parts is in the focus in addition to applications assisting the fabrication. The application shall be extended to pipe fasteners being welded on the bulb of deck beams. As the latter are highly cyclically stressed due to hull girder bending, a sufficient fatigue strength has to be ensured. In the project, extensive fatigue tests are performed at the bulb flates with welded studs. The effective notch stress approach is applied and verified for the first time for this type of welding so that the results can be transferred to other geometries and load cases.
