Energy efficiency in water production

Continuously rising energy prices and the need to reduce CO2 emissions present water supply companies with the challenge of ensuring a more energy-efficient supply of drinking water.
The goal of the project is to sustainably improve energy efficiency in the participating water supply companies, especially in the area of water production, while taking economic efficiency into account. For this purpose, the energy saving potentials are examined and the increase of energy efficiency is investigated by means of practical measures.
The scientific results and experience gained can be passed on to all water supply companies in Germany in the form of recommendations for action and offer them the opportunity to make an effective contribution to increasing energy efficiency.

Thematic fields of the ENERWAG project

The project aims to take a holistic view. When examining energy savings, we therefore look at individual well pumps and their particular environment in the well (pipelines, pressure losses, drawdown, clogging) as well as the overall operational management of well galleries and the entire water extraction process. This makes it possible to illustrate interrelationships that have different complex influences on the operation and energy efficiency of water extraction in the practical measures.
