Alexandre R. Cabral, P.Eng, received his Ph.D. from McGill University, in 1992. In 1994 he started his academic career at Université de Sherbrooke, Quebec, where he teaches Soil Mechanics, Environmental Geotechnics, Environmental Management and Sustainability. He also teaches a course entitled Writing and Publishing a Scientific Paper for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.
His main research interests are biosystems for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and unsaturated flow through porous media, such as cover systems with capillary barrier effect. His research interests also cover classical geotechnical issues, such as soil compaction and deposition of mine residues. He has published in several top journals, including the Canadian Geotechnical Journal; ASCE’s Journal of Geotech. and Geoenv., Journal of Environ. Eng., and Geotechnical Testing Journal; Waste Management; Air Water and Soil Pollution; etc. He co-authored papers with researchers and industrial partners from Canada, Europe, United States and Brazil.
Professor Cabral is member of the Canadian Geotechnical Society, and of the International Waste Working Group (IWWG). He has acted as consultant for several companies in Canada, Europe and South America. From 2002 to 2015, he supervised a humanitarian group that has realized projects in Peru, Haiti, Burkina Faso, and Malawi.
