MENARB - Desciption and activities

The IWWG Regional Branch for the Middle East and Northern Africa Region (IWWG-MENARB) has been established at Egypt Solid Waste Management Center of Excellence (ESWMCE) at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in collaboration with the Research and Technology Centre of Energy CRTEn, Borj-Cédria, Tunisia, in 2014. One of the main goals of the IWWG-MENARB is to train and provide reliable information to those interested in solid waste management in the region. It aims to promote best practice in waste management and build capacities of Local Authorities in North Africa and MENA region. As such, the IWWG-MENARB is planned to be very active in the region mostly in the organization and co-organization of conferences, courses, and workshops.

The branch is coordinated by Dr. Sherien Elagroudy (Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering and the director of ESWMCE) and Dr. Aida Ben Hassen Trabelsi (Assistant Professor at the Research and Technology Centre of Energy CRTEn). Starting from these two countries, Egypt and Tunisia, MEANARB activity will be extended to other countries in North Africa and MENA region.

Recent activities:

  • Presentation of the IWWG at the 6th International Renewable Energy Congress (IREC), March 24-26, 2015, Sousse, Tunisia (www.irec-conference.com).
  • Presentation of the IWWG at the First International Congress of Green Business and Sustainable Development, May 14-16, 2015, Hammamet, Tunisia (http://www.ecopark-igc.com).

 

Future activities:

The IWWG-MENARB will be presented in the framework of the GYA/IAP Interntional workshop on "Solid Waste Management and Green Economy" to be held in Halle, Germany on 22-23 October, 2015. For more information on IAP click here. Details about the Global Young Academy (GYA) are provided here.
