Description

The aim of the GIGA project is to develop a robot-based modular galvanization process with integrated inline process monitoring for the supply of relevant aircraft components. The research project aims to automate the galvanization process for small batch sizes, increase coating quality and reduce waste. As a research partner, the IFPT is developing innovative solutions for robotic handling and optical quality assurance in collaboration with the research partners. The IFPT focuses on the following areas:

  • Development of an adaptive path planning algorithm for robot-guided coating
  • Conception and implementation of an AI and camera-based inspection system for monitoring coating quality
  • Integration of the developed modules into the validation platform and testing in the overall system

The combination of flexible robotic handling during the coating process and intelligent inline quality assurance represents a new approach for the electroplating of aircraft components in small quantities.

Thanks to the modular design and the ability to use different electroplating processes, the project offers promising opportunities to reduce resource consumption and pollutant emissions in production and to strengthen the competitiveness of suppliers in the aviation industry.
