In the 02/2024 issue of spektrum - the magazine of TUHH - the interested reader could find the article "Besser Bahnfahren - neue Technologie macht öffentlichen Nahverkehr effizienter" (Better train travel - new technology makes public transport more efficient) by Ulrich Hoffmann. As technical project lead of the project FPOplus our colleague Daniel Plöger was interviewed to explain the projects mission: making public transport less inconvenient and therefore more attractive.

Our colleague Musab Ahmed travelled to the Normandy to attend the 49th IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN). LCN is a premier conference addressing leading edge research in computer networking and was held October 8-10,2024, in Caen, France. This year authors came from over 20 countries.

Building on the ongoing cooperation between our institute, ESA and NASA, Teresa Algarra recently visited the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) to meet with representatives from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. The meeting focused on advancements in DTN, exploring potential collaborative projects, and preparations for the upcoming CCSDS Fall meetings. Thank you to the NASA MSFC team for visiting us in Germany and for the productive discussions! We look forward to strengthening these partnerships and continuing our work on DTN.

Our paper "Spotlight Flooding: Enabling Point-to-Point Control Connection in Urban UAV Networks" submitted to VN4RRSR'24 has been accepted and will be presented at the Third International Workshop on Vehicular Networks for Risk Reduction and Safety Related systems, held in conjunction with WiMob 2024, Paris, France, October 21-23, 2024.

Our paper "Enhancing Geographic Greedy Routing in Sparse LDACS Air-To-Air Networks Through k-Hop Neighborhood Exploitation", has been accepted to the short paper track at 49th IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN), October 8-10, 2024, in Caen, Normandy, France.

As part of the growing cooperation between the institute and NASA, Teresa Algarra Ulierte recently had the opportunity to visit NASA Ames Research Center as a guest. The tour included the Roverscape, the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division, the Astrobees testing laboratory, the Vertical Motion Simulator and the US Air Force wind tunnel. A big thank you to the team at NASA Ames for hosting us and sharing their knowledge. We are looking forward to receiving you in Hamburg soon!

In July, Teresa Algarra Ulierte attended the SMC-IT/SCC Conference held in Mountain View, California. There, she held a presentation during the STINT workshop on “Adding Quality of Service Support to Bundle Protocol Through an Extension Block”. All in all, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in Space-Terrestrial Internetworking, and to hear about the newest developments on how to overcome space mission challenges.

In recognition of exceptional teaching, innovative methods, and new mediation concepts, 23 educators have been awarded the City of Hamburg's prestigious Teaching Award for 2024. Among the distinguished recipients are Dr.-Ing. Koojana Kuladinithi (course in computer science engineering) and Dorothee Schielein (course teacher training at vocational schools, specialising in media technology) from the Technical University of Hamburg, who have been celebrated for their outstanding contributions to education. Our paper "Adding Quality of Service Support to Bundle Protocol Through an Extension Block" has been accepted to be presented at the IEEE Space Mission Challenges for Information Technology and Space Computing Conference (SMC-IT/SCC), which will be held 15th - 19th July in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. It was written by Teresa Algarra, Dr.-Ing. Koojana Kuladinithi and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Timm-Giel from our institute, as well as Dr. Felix Flentge from the European Space Agency.

Teresa Algarra has won the 2023 DAAD prize, which is awarded to foreign students for good academic performance and social and intercultural commitment. The aim of the award is to promote an international and intercultural environment at universities and a joint exchange between students. Click for more information.
