The first day of the event included lectures and tutorials on the fundamentals of reactor design for homogeneous reactions by Prof. Raimund Horn and on multiphase chemical reactions by Prof. Michael Schlüter. A particular highlight was the presentation by Dr. Joachim Ritter (Bayer AG), who gave an insight into industrial reactor systems. In addition, Dr. Michael Schmidt (CEO REACNOSTICS GmbH) and Dr. Philipp Arbter (CTO COLIPI GmbH) shed light on the entrepreneurship in the field of process engineering and shared their personal experiences.
The second day was dedicated to bioreactors. Three lectures dealt with whole cell bioreactors (Prof. Anna Heins), electro-bioreactors and biofilm reactors (Prof. Johannes Gescher) and enzyme bioreactors (Dr. Daniel Ohde). Finally, Dr. Emil A. Byström (SpinChem AB) gave inspiring insights into the development of their rotating bed reactors from laboratory to production scale and the challenges faced by start-up companies.
Over the course of these two days, a fantastic overview of the fundamentals and the state of the art of chemical reactors and bioreactors was provided. A huge thank you to all the speakers and to Raimund Horn and Johannes Gescher for the great organisation!
