MEMS-based parametric amplifiers for range optimization of wireless sensor networks
The research team working on MEMS-paramps is aiming to build a MEMS-based parametric amplifier. Parametric amplifiers produce, due to their architecture, very little noise compared to conventional ampliefiers and are therefore very well suited in receiver applications. Using a MEMS device as a central component allows reducing the power consumption significantly.
Using the combination of low noise and low power consumption MEMS-paramps aims to build a receiver circuit with low power consumption but retaining a significant transmission range. Such a receiver circuit can be beneficial for many battery powered wireless sensor networks.
