What is UIF?
The UIF program empowers students and faculty to drive change in higher education and is a program by Design Lab at the University of Twente in the Netherlands
How long does the project run?
The program is divided into two parts: a six-week online training by the Design Lab in Twente followed by a practical project that you choose - how long this practical part lasts is determined by you as a UIF-team
What do you get out of it?
You'll develop skills in leading change, design thinking, project and event management, and co-creation while connecting with like-minded people from TUHH and around the world. You’ll explore new methods, expand your network, and have the unique opportunity to drive real change at your university. A highlight is the meet-up at the University of Twente in April 2026, where you'll collaborate with fellow changemakers. And the motto is"once a fellow—always a fellow".
Who all takes part in UIF?
Moritz, Amanda and Luise are the so-called champions who supervise you and the project team. Each UIF cohort consists of a maximum of 4 TUHH students (bachelor/master)
Most important deadlines:

| May – June 2025 | interview process by the Design Lab University of Twente |
| 28. August – 16. October 2025 | 6-week Design Thinking and Lean Start-up online course by Design Lab at the University of Twente in the Netherlands (average workload approx. 10 hours per week; there are sometimes more intensive phases) |
| October 2025 | Start your own project: You develop your own, TUHH-specific project and drive it forward |
| April 2026 | If you do a good job as a team and can show progress, there is a chance that you will be invited to the Meetup at the University of Twente! |
Your application to become a TUHH changemaker:
If you believe you have what it takes to become a University Innovation Fellow and want to make a difference on our campus, please apply with a CV, grades overview and a short motivation letter. Please answer the following questions (max. 500 characters per question) in English in your motivation letter:
- Tell us about a student at your school who you most admire and why.
- The president of your school has just given a blank check. What would you do to increase the number of students exposed to innovation and entrepreneurship at your school and why?
- Imagine that you have an idea for a new course at your school. You have the opportunity to pitch your idea to administration. The administration tells you that they will put your idea in the 3-5 year strategic plan for the school. What do you do?
- If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
- What do you want your legacy to be?
