The publisher Schriftenreihe Schiffbau is the central publication method for scientific publications in the field of naval architecture and ship engineering of Hamburg University of Technology. Since it’s foundation in 1953 more than 600 publications have been issued here. Among them many dissertations as well as publications of celebrated german shipbuilding researchers like Prof. Dr.-Ing. Weinblum and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kurt Wendel.

The publisher is resident at the Institut of Ship Design and Ship Safety and sees it’s task in the spreading and preservation of public research results. Especially the doctoral candidates of TUHH shall find here a most cost-saving method of publishing their works. But also other publications relevant to the maritime domaine are welcome.

To save printing costs the publisher cooperates closely with the documentation server of the TUHH. Although not all publications of the house are available there, the existing basis is continually completed. Especially older publications are added increasingly. For this purpose a scan-project is running already since 2007 with the intention to bring the old stocks into electronic arrangement and to preserve them. Many of the former publications exist only in the form of thin, bleached out master copies. The damage of these would mean the loss of irrecoverable valuable knowledge.

Recent publications can be ordered in bound form either at the bookseller’s or directly at our house. In this regard I would like to call your attention to the newly created layout. Here efforts were made on the one hand to keep the recognition value of the series and on the other hand to develop a modern design along the lines of TUHH. According to the comments of many of our dialogue partners the therewith charged Formlabor has well succeeded.
