Double success at International Microwave Symposium (IMS) 2024

The team from the Institute of High-Frequency Technology wins two first places in the student design competition at this year's IMS.

At the International Microwave Symposium (IMS), the flagship conference in the field of radio technology taking place in Washington, D.C in June of 2024, Frederike Bartels and Dominik Langer competed against a large international field of doctoral students and their designs for a 3D-printed antenna with special functional parameters in the "Millimeter wave dual band 3D Printed Antenna" section. During the measurement, a murmur went through the crowd at the values displayed. The final evaluation then proved it: They achieved by far the highest measured antenna gain over the required bandwidth and consistently won first place. Congratulations!

And that's not all: Dominik Langer, Frederike Bartels, Kristina Heß and Nils Albrecht took part in the Student Design Competition "Radar for noncontact vital sign sensing" with a miniaturized, lightweight and extremely energy-efficient radar. The aim was to determine the heart and breathing rate of a seated person as precisely as possible without contact. The minimal weight of the system and the power consumption as well as a presentation on the potential of the approach were also included in the evaluation. Here too, the Hamburg team was able to impress in all areas and was also awarded first place. This is the third time in a row that the victory in this competition has gone to Hamburg! Congratulations to you too!
