Temporary PhD Research Position

Doctoral Researcher Position at TUHH (funding for 4 years, German E-13 salary)

The Institute of Embedded Systems at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) invites applications for a 4-years doctoral research (PhD) position.

Research activities focus on design automation techniques for embedded systems, with a particular emphasis on modelling, analysis and optimization of non-functional properties. This covers, e.g., performance, real-time constraints, energy efficiency or dependability. Research topics targeted at TUHH include, but are not limited to, the design of real-time capable multi-tasking and multi-core systems, the design of safe mixed-criticality systems, certification and formal correctness of design tools, or multi-criterial optimization. One key aspect of the institute’s research are compiler techniques for the automated optimization of embedded software regarding the above-mentioned design criteria.

Teaching activities of the Institute of Embedded Systems cover both bachelor- and master-level courses on embedded system design, compilers, computer architecture and technical computer science. The courses will be complemented by seminars and, more importantly, by practical labs where students will gain hands-on experience in software design for cyber-physical systems, hardware design and compiler construction.

As PhD researcher in our institute, your duties will include

  • setup, conception and execution of an independent research project within the institute's field of research
  • supervision of German and international students during their project and thesis works
  • support of courses like, e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems.

The teaching obligations of the successful candidate will be 4 hours (SWS) per week.

Applicants are required to have

  • an academic graduation degree (master-level or comparable) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or in a closely related field,
  • previous knowledge in embedded systems, technical computer science, computer architecture, compilers, real-time systems, operating systems or scheduling,
  • very good German and English language skills,
  • C++ programming skills.
