Abstract: To cope with the revised challenging Required Index it is very promising to focus on an advanced analysis of intermediate damage cases first before design improvements or increase of GM is taking into account. In this work a fully integrated time-domain flooding simulation within a Monte Carlo based damage calculation method for the assessment of intermediate stages is demonstrated. Only with the known explicit damage cube dimensions it is possible to investigate which opening size and location of all damages leads to the most severe intermediate situation. The openings resulting from the drawn cubes are generated fully automatic at the violated room boundaries. An extended room subdivision level within a watertight compartment is integrated in the calculation program for exact flooding propagation. Also dynamic motion of the vessel after damage is taken into account, which has a significant influence on the flooding process. This work shows the attained index potential of intermediate cross-flooding cases for example ships revealed from time-domain flooding calculation.
