Abstract: This paper presents the results of the accident of the multipurpose vessel MS ROSEBURG. On the voyage from Riga to Barrow Haven the ship was laden with timber cargo on the deck and in the hold. In the Bay of Kiel the ship was caught by a gust of wind and reached a heeling angle of 10 to 15 degrees. The deck cargo began to slip and lashing straps for cargo securing broke. The ship reached a heeling angle of 40 degrees. About 75 percent of the deck cargo was lost. Afterwards the ship rested at a stable equilibrium.
