The week began with a short introduction on how to generate a tone and why different instruments sound differently. The practical program started with a soldering tutorial. After that, the actual synthesizer was soldered. Each student was responsible to build one tone generator. Moreover, a lot of cables had to be soldered to various knobs, switches and LEDs. Finally, the synthezier - the S-Box - is able to generate eight different tones and play them in a loop at a variable rate, where the pitch and sound of each tone can be controlled by the tuning knobs. A lot of work also went into the final design of the synthesizer case.
