Abstract: The Operation and Maintenance Phase (O&M Phase) of an offshore wind farm has a high cost and risk profile. It is estimated that O&M costs account for 25% - 30% of the total life cycle costs. O&M has consequently a high potential of cost reduction by using an optimized concept. Since 1991 when the first wind farm Vindeby in Denmark was built most offshore wind farms, particular the ones in the Netherlands and the UK, use land based O&M concepts. The first commercial project in Germany, Baltic I is also serviced by a land based concept from the port of Barhöft. Most future wind farms, for example in the German Exclusive Economical Zone (EEZ) or UK Round 3, are located further offshore. For those projects the conventional land based approach might not be feasible anymore and new, alternative concepts are currently considered in the planning process. For example, the deployment of O&M personnel to living quarters on substations, on separate platforms or on hotel vessels, or a more regularly use of helicopters. The offshore wind farm Bard Offshore 1 will have a platform with living quarters offshore. In this current research project the new and different approaches on the market are investigated
