The group of Multiphase Systems investigates the application of biocatalysts in multiple phase reaction systems. Of special interest is to investigate and better understand the influence onto the activity of the catalyst and the optimal reactor set-up.
Different gassing technologies, as well as the application of gaseous butane, organic solvents or solid phases are being investigated. With application of different pressures and different gassing techniques, the reactions are optimized e.g. increasing the reaction kinetics as well as changing the reaction selectivity. The usage of biphasic systems and heterogenization of enzymes by immobilization enables optimized reaction set-ups with a simplified downstream processing, which results in increased productivity.
