The GIGA project was launched on July 9th at the IWW (Institute of Materials Science and Engineering) in Chemnitz. The IFPT is working with several project partners on the "GIGA" research project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK). From the SME (KMU) sector, the project leaders are Scholz Mechanik from Hamburg working together with KleRo GmbH and Oberflächen- & Elektrotechnik Scheigenpflug GmbH. On the university side, the IFPT will work with the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology.
The “GIGA” research project aims to develop a robot-based modular galvanization with inline process monitoring for aircraft components in small batch sizes. The IFPT is contributing to this by developing adaptive path planning for robot guidance and an AI-based inspection system for quality monitoring. This novel approach promises to reduce resource consumption and emissions in production and to strengthen the competitiveness of the suppliers.
