Abstract: Traffic on Germany's roads is increasing, which means that the transportation infrastructure is constantly being renovated and renewed. Many bridges have been in existence for several decades and were not designed for the volume of today`s traffic when they were built, meaning that many bridges and other engineering structures need to be repaired. However, if the lifetime and load capacity do not permit further use, these structures must be replaced by new structures. The design and planning of these new structures in one of the main tasks of a civil engineer.
